Ross
I only realized now that almost all of my first encounters with my current friends are just really funny. The story of how Ross and I met still gets told a lot, apparently.
A couple of years back on a Friday evening, my friends and I went to our usual watering hole, I had invited this girl (let’s call her Nashley) I just started talking to to come and join me so we could get to know each other better (read: sort-of date). Little did I know, she brought along a friend with her (Ross), but they weren’t that great of friends and Ross had no clue he was tagging along on a “date”. I had no clue Nashley turned out to be the complete opposite of the fun and interesting girl I imagined her to be (not to mention a stalker…) For a supposed “date”, Ross and I ended up talking with each other much more than I did with her. Contact infos were exchanged at the end of the evening.
The very next day, he added me on MSN, we chatted a bit before I had to admit to him that I was weirded out by Nashley. He felt the same way. So then we bonded over the overall awkwardness of the previous evening.
Ross is hot shit (pardon my language), he really is. He loves comic books and video games, he’s an all-around wonderful guy to hang out with, always smiling and in good humour. Plus he’s such a supermodel; I would so make him to be my boyfriend if I was into the peens.
To Nashley: You came on waaay too strong, I still get creeped out by your crazy eyes whenever we bump into each other…

Sylvie
Oh, Sylvie, Sylvie, Sylvie. Our friendship goes back to when she first started stalking me online back in around 2003. We quickly became the greatest BFFs online; mainly, we replied to each other’s post comments on LiveJournal, normally resulting to massive threads of random, silly conversations. Whenever we did meet up in real life, it was quiet and awkward… we spoke so much online that topics would run out when face-to-face. It was a recurring odd cycle.
All that has changed in the past few months, only recently have I realized how much she makes me smile, the dynamic has changed a lot between us since those LiveJournal days. Somehow, there’s a lot more comfort between us, we share a lot more, have flowing conversations, if there is silence, it’s not the awkward kind, and the silliness is still there. It feels nice.
Sylvie’s extremely beautiful, she has a lot to say, lots of passion about learning new things, she’s very affectionate and kind with a great sense of humour, an awesome photographer, aaand she’s also a geek. Huge plus. You can’t help but love her once you get to know her. She also complains a lot to me, but I do the same with her; I believe we understand each other quite well.
Also, she makes me hyper for some reason!!!
Although the initial plan was to draw a comic caricature where her quirky and playful personalities are represented, I went for the complete opposite with a darker portrait. Something different.
And she really does have killer eyes.

Zooey Deschanel
Zooey’s über cool, we hang out all the time, we go shopping for dresses, giggle at silly things, she gives me backstage passes to her shows and Ben bakes me cookies.
That felt creepy to write.
Yeah, who am I kidding? I, along with many other hipster/indie boys and girls, wish.
This is just a weekend filler art and a note to say this blog won’t be daily, I was just on a HOT ROLL last week when I started this project. I don’t want to turn this into work, if you know what I’m sayin’.
I love working to She & Him’s music.

Mel, Josie & Mil (in that order)
Ahh, the posse, we go way back. It’ a bit crazy, actually. Although we were all in our early 20’s when we first met each other, it feels like we spent a lifetime together. A lot of my “growing up” was with them, they’ve contributed so much in my life. Despite growing a bit apart from them in the past year, they will always hold a special place in my heart. They are my family.
It’s actually hard to express how I feel about these three amazing girls (me and words… pff), which is why I’d like to dedicate my best illustration ever to the posse. And hey, it’s of them, too!
Note about the artwork: Mel doesn’t really have those humongous glasses. And Mil doesn’t wear any in real life. What a silly, confusing picture!
MDCM PP 4E!!!(Sorry I made you look drunk, Mel.)(Mom, Mil’s drinking Coke.)
